Actor Diljit Dosanjh is going to play the role of Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh in an upcoming film titled ‘Soorma’. The film is a biopic based on the life of Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh.
The film ‘Soorma’ is being produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions, and directed by Shaad Ali who has previously directed some Bollywood films like ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘Saathiya’ and ‘Ok Jaanu’. The film also features Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi in different key roles.
Taapsee Pannu has already started shooting for the film, she said in a statement, “I was really looking forward to joining this film as sports is an important part of my life. Shooting at one of my most favourite places in India, Punjab…. With a few days of hockey sessions already completed and many more to come, I am looking forward to playing on my home ground.”
Actor Diljit Dosanjh is recognised as one of the leading artists in the Punjabi music industry. He made his Bollywood debut with ‘Udta Punjab’ in 2016 for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
Sandeep Singh is an Indian professional field hockey player and an ex-captain of the Indian national team. He generally features as a full back and penalty corner specialist for the team. In 2006, he was seriously injured after being hit by an accidental gunshot in Shatabadi train. After the incident, he was almost paralysed for 2 years, but now he is not only recovered from that serious injury but also re-established himself in the team. The film ‘Soorma’ will describe the comeback story of him.
The makers of ‘Soorma’ have decided to release the film on June 29 next year, and they also shared the first look poster of the film.
